The Popularity of the Composite Door

The Trend Change

In our last blog we wrote about what materials are used in a composite door, the security system and range of design choices associated when you are purchasing a composite door. In this blog you are going to see how over a short period of time the composite door has went from a relatively unknown option in front door replacements to the stand-out most popular. The aesthetics of the composite door when compared to timber and uPVC panel doors have a superior durability along with a larger range of designs and glass options.

The Rise in Popularity in Composite Doors

When composite doors first entered the world market, It may come as quite a shock to everyone to find out just how successfully the composite door has competed in a market. With more traditional doors (timber, aluminium) being at the forefront of the market for the past couple years, the gap has slowly started to increase in which door is preferred outright.
As we can see from the chart below, it looks very likely that the composite door will soon take control of the industry and either the timber door will have to make a change to halt the continuous decline or they face the ever so likely future the uPVC Door faces, which is eventual cease of trading.

Analysing the Trend

If you would like to take a look at the google trend graph above,  the term “composite door” first made an impact on Google search trends slightly earlier than 2007 and if we look forward four years to 2011, you'll see there has been quite a substantial rise in popularity of the composite door as we see  became a close competitor to the term "timber door".
Moving forward another four years to 2015, you'll see the progression hasn't shown any major signs of slowing down and what we can take from this is that the composite door looks like it'll be around for a long time!
Google Trends can't be taken as a factual measure of how successful a product a
has sold over the years but it does give a great inclination into how  the buyer searches and what products interest them. Although these results cant be solely relied on for a products success, they can be used to forecast future searches and how peoples interests have changed as products have developed and new products have came onto the market.

The Future of uPVC Doors

Whilst it’s great news on the composite door front, this graph doesn’t make for good reading if you’re in the uPVC door market.
If we refer back to the Google trend graph, you can see uPVC doors are represented by a red line. When compared to Timber doors, Aluminium doors, Steel doors and Composite doors, we can see that they aren't searched anywhere near as frequently. This may be an indication perhaps of where the market is right now, and where it’s about to go in the future.

Timber Doors now a Premium Product?

This trend graph may not be seen as pleasant reading for timber door manufacturers either. After searching strongly in the early years of the graph, the term "timber doors" has been in a steady decline since 2008 as other products such as Aluminium doors and Composite doors have taken up much more search traffic. This may not be entirely bad news however for the timber door market as they can now take up a new position as a "premium" option when it comes to front door replacements. Timber doors are generally more expensive than a composite door and seeing as it can now be branded as a unique and specialist item, customers may get a sense of satisfaction knowing their nearby neighbors won't be able to get their hands on anything similar.
It is fair to say that judging from results, it is clear from that the composite door is here for many more years to come. It can only be assumed that the composite door will continue to dominate the online marketing platforms. That is until something else comes along to shake things up again.
